CURRICULUM VITAE of RICHARD ST-PIERRE, PH.D.
PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
I have substantial expertise and experience in native plant biology and culture, seed collection and storage, seed germination and vegetative propagation, insect, disease, and environmental problem diagnostics, the development and validation of production technologies and systems for native plant species, statistical analyses, and the writing and editing of scientific and technical documentation. Short-term positions early in my career provided me with experience in modified-environment horticultural production, the environmental assessment of insecticide application on non-target organisms in aquatic ecosystems, assessment of water quality associated with water and sewage treatment, biological control of weeds, x-ray crystallography of proteins, electron microscopy, and microtechnique and histology.
I have a successful track record of research, scholarship, teaching, industry development, and information and technology transfer, and have worked closely with the horticultural industry (provincially, nationally and internationally), for more than 20 years. Over the course of my career, I have successfully procured and managed more than $5 million of research funding, representing 31 research contracts. I built a comprehensive, diverse, unique and internationally recognized program of research and industry development on the basis of these contracts. I have published more than 270 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters, production manuals, technical reports, factsheets, and other articles. I have given more than 145 presentations and guest lectures, and have been a reviewer of manuscripts for scientific journals, and research grant proposals. I have instructed more than 30 courses and workshops on diverse subjects, including the conservation and utilization of plant genetic resources, general horticulture and plant science, fruit production, new crop development, technical writing, general biology and ecology, field ecology, and plant taxonomy. Also, I have supervised and brought to a successful completion 5 M.Sc. and 2 Ph.D. students, and have been a member of a further 10 M.Sc. and 5 Ph.D. graduate student committees. Finally, I have fulfilled more than 10,000 industry and public requests for technical information.
Currently, I manage two businesses based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, one providing botanical and horticultural services (Prairie Elements Botanical & Horticultural Services), and one providing document writing and editing services, web site development and photographic restoration (The Document Studio).
